Professional/Statutory Bodies

The Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework can recognise other qualifications and programmes of learning, including qualifications being developed on a UK-wide basis by public and professional/statutory bodies and other organisations.

The SCQF is not a regulatory framework.

  • it facilitates the recognition of SCQF credit points and supports credit transfer and progression routes in the Scottish system
  • it seeks to help everyone involved in education and training in Scotland to make comparisons between qualifications offered in Scotland, and to understand how these relate to each other

Learners who are members of professional/statutory bodies may also be able to progress their careers by making use of the SCQF Levels and SCQF Credit Points.

Extending the Facility to Credit Rate

We are currently running a pilot to test out both the potential criteria and guidance for new credit rating bodies. This pilot began in December 2007 and is due to end in July 2008.

The SCQF is delighted that the following organisations agreed to take part in the pilot and will be credit rating a range of their own provision. All of them have experience of submitting provision for credit rating and have existing robust quality assurance structures to work within.

  • Chartered Institute of Bankers (Scotland)
  • City and Guilds Group
  • Scottish Police College

The pilot is being overseen by the SCQF Quality Committee SCQF Quality Committee on behalf of the SCQF Partnership Board SCQF Partnership Board.

An independent evaluation of the pilot will be carried out over the summer and a report with recommendations taken to the SCQF Partnership Board in September 2008.
