Learner Case Study - Gordon

Gordon had an HND in Human Resource Management and was given 240 SCQF credits towards a BA degree. He's now in a flourishing career.

Gordon had failed to get into university direct from school because his Higher grades weren't good enough, so he went to a further education college to do an HND in Human Resource Management.

"I was really disappointed not to get into university. But I think I must have been a bit of a late developer because once I was at college I really steamed ahead and got excellent grades in all my Units.

"Once I'd gained my HND, my course tutor suggested that I should have one more go at getting a degree. He advised that I'd get credits for the HND which would probably take me into a degree programme without having to start from scratch."

Gordon applied to do a BA Degree in Human Resource Management and was given 240 credits at Level 7 and Level 8 for his HND.

"I went straight in at final year which was fantastic - I just couldn't have done another three years' full-time study on top of the two years to get the HND."

After graduating Gordon gained Graduate Membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

He's now working in the Human Resources department of a leading knitwear company and has a clear career path ahead. In the future he'll also be helped by work-based training courses that will be given a Framework credit and level rating.

"And I've kept on studying. I started to learn French last year - our company has a sales force in France and it might be useful to speak a bit of French. If nothing else, I'll be able to order the beers on holiday next year."
