The Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) Partnership is delighted to announce that, further to the extension of Credit Rating Bodies (CRBs) pilot, City & Guilds, the Institute of Leadership & Management, Scottish Police College and the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland have been successful in meeting the agreed criteria and are now approved as CRBs to credit rate their own learning provision. Commenting on the announcement, Aileen Ponton, CEO of the SCQF Partnership said, "We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with the four organisations and expanding the learning provision which sits in the Framework to the benefit of all learners and employers."
Fiona Hyslop MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning said: "The Scottish Government fully understands the importance of ensuring people continue to train and develop themselves, especially through the current downturn. I am delighted that these four organisations have been approved as Credit Rating Bodies. This will lead to more qualifications and learning programmes being added to the Framework, increasing choice and opportunities for learners and employers. This will hopefully encourage more people to expand their learning and will therefore contribute to Scotland's future economic success."
Credit rating is the process of allocating an SCQF level and credit points to a defined set of learning outcomes. A Credit Rating Body is a party recognised by the SCQF Partnership as being able to carry out this process.
Previously, only universities, colleges and SQA could credit rate qualifications in Scotland, therefore the successful conclusion to this pilot is an important step forward and is in line with Scottish Government plans to enable more credit rated learning provision to be placed into the Framework. Now that the pilot is complete the SCQF Partnership will publish the related criteria and is considering applications from other organisations for credit rating status.
